Beachwear and swimsuits are definitely my favorite items in the wardrobe. They’re all about summer, vacations, seaside… In short, all the things I love the most!
For this summer, I promised myself to spend as much time on the beach as I can. It’s not easy when you live and work in Paris but I will try to organize plenty of weekend escapes and mini trips on the seashore. I feel the need to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the waves. Probably it’s a result of long and grey winter in Paris this year ? Winter seemed to last forever, but finally summer is here, and it’s time to prepare ourselves for the beach season 🙂
So what are the hottest swimwear trends for this summer? Before I share my vision with you, let me introduce you Ôdabaïa, a French e-shop which helped me to discover the trendiest swimsuits of this season.

Apres un hiver particulièrement froid cette année à Paris, je n’ai qu’une seule envie : partir au bord de la mer! Au début du printemps, je me suis jurée d’utiliser toute occasion pour le plaisir futile d’un bain d’eau salée ; et jusqu’à maintenant ce plan se réalise avec un succès indéniable : Portugal, Espagne et plusieurs weekends en Normandie m’ont permis de bien bronzer et de retrouver un équilibre pour palier à ce manque de vitamines D. La pièce la plus importante de ma garde-robe aujourd’hui ? Le maillot de bain! Il s’agit en fait de mon vêtement préféré, et il est navrant, frustrant au final de ne pas le porter plus souvent :))

Alors quelles sont les tendances de cette saison en ce qui concerne les maillots de bain?
1. One-piece
They are back! One-piece swimsuit is a must-have of this season and even the most loyal bikini fans are forced to admit it. The good news is that there’s a large choice of one-piece bathing suits and every girl can find a swimsuit of her dreams. Low back or plunge front, high leg or halter neck – one-piece swimsuits aren’t boring anymore and can make of you a true star of the beach!
A big advantage of this type of bathing suits is that they are flattering to any body shape and create a perfect silhouette. They are also very comfortable for active vacations and water sports such as surfing, water ski, beach volley and so on. Their only inconvenience is that they aren’t very practical for getting tan but well, that’s why it’s better to take at least two different swimsuits when you go on seaside vacations – this helps you to avoid the tan lines.

Ce type de maillots de bain constitue incontestablement un avantage pour toutes les silhouettes et en plus il demeure particulièrement confortable pour les activités de la plage: surf, beach volley, ski nautiques…

2. Boho
Bright and colorful, boho style is the quintessence of freedom. Mood: openness to the world, romantic vibes and joy of life. Isn’t it exactly what you need on vacations?
We recognize boho chic by hippies inspired details: lace, pompoms, tassels. Multi-layered textures and ethnic patterns are also typical to boho. Accessories are often abundant and make up a big part of boho chic : vintage-style sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry, hats, turbans, headbands…
I’m particularly attached to boho style at the beach because in my mind it is associated with surf culture which I adore. At Ôdabaïa I found a perfect boho chic swimsuit Sahara Nights by the Australian brand Seafolly. Just look at this sexy low-cut neckline and ethnic print making the waist look so thin! It’s a well-known fact that patterns can work for your shape but I’ve seen as perfect example of this rule as this bathing suit!
2. Boho
Ce style bohème, inspiré par les mouvances hippies, incarne l’esprit de liberté et la joie de vivre. Il reste populaire depuis plusieurs saisons déjà et ne perd pas de son actualité. C’est une ligne légère et raffinée, exactement ce qu’il faut pour les vacances au bord de la mer!
Boho chic mêle broderies, dentelles, imprimés ethniques et d’autres attributs issus de l’ambiance hippie. Les couleurs pastels, ou au contraire, vives et gaies sont typiques pour les vêtements style bohème. On n’hésite pas à mélanger les textures et ni à ajouter des accessoires retro.

3. Stripes
As a photographer, I find striped clothes very photogenic. Thin black and whites stripes remind me light and shadow game. Who said they look boring? Simplicity is often the key of success when we are looking for ideal style.
With stripes you can considerably transform your body shape – vertical ones make you look thinner and diagonal create the illusion of movement. Their combination on the swimsuits works perfectly when you need to hide small imperfections and highlight your beauty.
I opted for « back to the basics » black and white Sunday Stripe bikini by Tori Praver, a brand founded by a Hawaiian surf model. This brand isn’t very well-known in France, and it’s a pity since it creates cool and recognizable pieces.
3. Rayures
Les rayures symbolisent certainement une des tendances de la saison 2018. Elles sont souvent associées avec un style retro très apprécié et très répandu de cet été. Les couleurs basiques ou primaires sont souvent privilégiées : combinaison de noir et blanc, bleu et blanc, rouge et blanc… Très photogéniques, les rayures sont en plus utiles et malicieuses pour masquer les petites imperfections de votre silhouette.
J’ai arrêté mon choix sur un bikini triangle Sunday Stripe by Tori Praver. J’adore le minimalisme sexy de cette pièce, souligné par les rayures noires et blanches, presque un imprimé masculin.
4. Tropical prints
Botanical patterns are everywhere today, not only on the clothes but also in interior. For your swimsuit choose a bright tropical one – palms, succulents, exotic flowers… This kind of patterns are very flattering for your body (if you choose the right silhouette of course) and make you look a wild, glam and feminine – perfect for hot summer days on the beach! Tropical prints on the swimsuits add freshness to your look and match perfectly with blue water. They are most often associated with Hawaiian shirts, so whenever you wear them it makes you think of Waikiki beach.

4. Imprimés tropicaux

It became particularly popular with arriving of one-piece red bathing suit on Instagram, and today it’s a must-have for any influencer.
You have plenty of options – classical sporty red swimsuit or thigh-exposing silhouette, plunging neckline or high neck. I opted for a simple but perfectly shaped red swimsuit Belair Beachbabe by Banana Moon – could’t resist its vintage vibes and nice writing on the front. This swimsuit is also very convenient for surfing because it doesn’t restrict the movements and stays on it’s place whatever waves you ride 😉
5. Rouge
Couleur de la passion, sensuel et provocant, le rouge joue en solo cet été ! Une pièce iconique inspirée par Baywatch produit un excellent effet pour celles qui aspirent d’être aux centres des attentions sur la plage. La modèle Belair Beachbabe de Banana Moon m’a conquise grâce à son look vintage, le dos hyper bas et l’écriture sympa sur le front. En plus ce maillot de bain me donne envie de partir en surf trip !
To sum up, swimsuits go sexy and feminine this summer, colorful and glamorous more than ever.

Personally I have a weakness for long weightless dresses flying up in the sea wind.
