The last one of the Younan Colection properties that we visited in July was the hotel Saint Martin located in the medieval castle in the village Saint-Maxent-l’Ecole. Since we were short of time we couldn’t spend a night in this hotel but just had lunch and chilled by the swimming pool. Even this short visit gave us an idea about the style and atmosphere of Saint Martin (and also made us dreaming to come back one day!)
Saint Martin isn’t as big as Alexandra Palace or Le Prieuré but it definitely has its personnality. Behind the solid walls are hidden cozy rooms and a rustic restaurant. Wooden furniture and antique pieces of decoration make the hotel’s interior warm and homey.
The restaurant has a nice terrace in the garden, but the day we visited Saint Martin the weather was very hot, so we decided to have lunch inside, with air conditioning. We got a table by the window and checked the menu. At Saint Martin traditional French cuisine is privileged, delicious and hearty, based on local and seasonal products. We chose the menu “Découverte” including a starter, a main dish and a dessert (35€ per person). A glass of white wine completed the meal.
After lunch, it was great to go down to swimming pool, take a sun bed and soak in the sunshine, having a refreshing swim from time to time. The pool is located just next to the forest and it was cool to feel ourselves in the middle of nature. We spent a calm and relaxing afternoon at Saint Martin and only regretted that we couldn’t stay for night in this peaceful place…
